Defaqto, the financial research company, has found that 47% of standard comprehensive motor insurance policies provide specific coverage for child car seats.
This is a huge increase on the 3% that provided such coverage in 2004.
General Insurance Insight Analyst Mike Powell explained that four years ago the law changed to make car seats mandatory for all children under the age of 12, leading to the substantial increase in coverage available.
When taking out insurance, drivers with children ought to consider whether child car seat replacement is included as standard, and whether a replacement is provided or a cash sum instead.
Defaqto has conducted more recent research into motoring and coverage, and found at the start of this month that only one out of every eight policies provided cover for road rage incidents.
In August, the firm found that only a fifth of insurers provided legal cover for uninsured loss recovery as standard.
